Santiago is a really boring city. During the winter you can go skiing in the mountains close to Santiago -1 hour drive up and another down-. However, Santiago doesn't have much to offer to justify the burden.

I've been to Santiago many times already, and it has changed radically during the last 20 years thanks to the economic bonanza of the Chilean economy. Nightlife doesn't exist, seafood and wine is good, but in general there is a limited offer of places to go. Although the Chileans are educated people, the there is no major Museum or cultural attraction in Santiago. There is plenty of new buildings, malls and Hotels, but that's about it. Maybe that is the reason why Chileans pick Buenos Aires as their proffered destination short escapes.

Buenos Aires on the other hand, has it all. Museums, architecture, both contemporary and from all days, parks, nightlife, restaurants, bars, cafes, and of course Argentine girls -bit hysteric though-. Buenos Aires is full of history. From the golden years when Argentina was the 5th richest nation in the world, to the economic collapse. From Peron and Evita presidency to the bloodiest military dictatorship in Latam. From visionary constituents of the country that help the country to have the widest middle class in Latam to the greedy and corrupt President Menem that helped to wipe out a large chunk of the middle class.

I had the chance to live many places across Latam, and there are 2 cities that have no competition whatsoever -at least in Latam-, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires. At least for me, Santiago is way back in the scale. It is great for doing business, shopping. Clean and well organized, Snatiago is the least latin american city in latam. On the other hand, Buenos Aires has the charm of the old days -architecture, parks, streets, buildings-, and the pulse of the modern city.

Do not think twice, go to Baires.

Buenos Aires is an amazing city; it's an astonishing metropolis that looks a bit like Europe, but by having an edgy Latin American pose and if you want to visit that city then take a look with hotelbye . El Puerto Madero is a place effectively visited. It served as the key interface of Buenos Aires throughout the late 19th century but know is converted into structures that could be applied as residences, restaurants, shops and other organizations and to give this project a little bit of style, all streets in the area were named after women. Strolling through the Puerto Madero is a great way to pay a nice evening the same as visiting El Obelisco. El Obelisco was integrated 1936 to remember the 400th anniversary of the city founding and now's a must-see place from Buenos Aires.

Even when Santiago is a beautiful city, i have to say you must come to Buenos Aires.

As it has been said, it has it all.

specially if you enjoy good restaurants, going out at night, arts and crafts, etc.

Porteños (that´s how Buenos Aires inhabitants are called) can be egomanics but in general, we´re very friendly people, eager to socialize.

Plus , if you´re bringing dollars or euros, everything ill be extremely cheap for you.

Trust me: I was born in Buenos Aires (oops, that makes me a "porteña" but not all of us are egomaniacs!!! hahah), and currently live there. And I´ve also been to Santiago de Chile.Beautiful city, but a little bit dull compared to Buenos Aires.

You can take a look at this article. It´s pretty accurate:

Santiago would be my preference. Bueno's Aires is beautiful. It has a nice European flair to it however the folks from Buenos Aires aren't very friendly.

Santiago is very beautiful, folks are friendly, and there's lots to do. If you're going in the Winter (Northern Hemisphere's Summer) they've got great skiing!

ENJOY! Remember - dinner is at like 11:00 down there.

Buenos Airea of course. When it's being run well, B.A. is a beautiful and cultured city that offers it all. It has the feeling of Europe in it's architecture and parks and the bar-b-que(asado) can't be beaten for flavor.Much to do from antique shopping, culture(Theatro Colon),Tango, sports(polo)and too much more than can be mentioned about a city that never sleeps.Besides,God lives there.Ask any Argentine and they will vouch for that.

i in my view like santiago extra acceptable...it has beautiful cafes and females human beings. both cities are sparkling yet....i trust that santiago has extra acceptable lifestyle. argentina has its tango dancers and oters yet person-friendly, santiago wins in that classification. you should verify out lima too.
